"Goddess Within" custom work

I got a message from a customer who purchased a piece of art from me several years ago.   

Her  sister had been visiting, saw the art, and "absolutely LOVE IT".   

She was wondering if I would make one like it that she could give as a birthday gift.

After explaining that you can never make an exact piece of art like the original 

she said go ahead and get as close as possible.

By this time I am stoked and ready to go.

13"W x 15"L loose canvas 

Gessoed then added a layer of joint compound for texture

After it dried I sanded then applied matte medium to seal the surface

Glazed with Golden Raw Umber

Sketched with charcoal

Added color using PanPastels and acrylic paint

Added more colors to the background using PanPastels

More texture added to the background with joint compound

After it dried I sanded it then sealed it with matte medium 

I wanted more depth to the background so added coffee ground, let it dry overnight

PanPastels and acrylic paints

Randomly added drops of black india ink

Stenciled vertical lines

Added more color with PanPastels

Stenciled the headdress using a paper doily and flexible modeling paste

Sprayed final fixative

After the headdress dried I sanded it then added more modeling paste to make it larger

Applied matte varnish

After the varnish dried I stippled another layer of matte varnish 

Let it dry for several days.

Varnished an vintage wooden clothes hanger, created a wire hoop with stone embellishment as a way to hang it

Attached the canvas to the wooden hanger

Signed it.

Finished.

I delivered this piece of art today and my customer LOVED it!

What a good feeling when the art I "create from my heart" is genuinely appreciated.

Bringing my art to life

In January I signed up for  an on-line art class by Jeanne-Marie Webb titled, "Soul Bearers".  She taught us to make sculptures using air dry clay.  Once I got my hands in that clay and felt it moving beneath my fingertips I knew that I was hooked.  I just had to follow down this path.  I set out making a whole family of armatures.  Having lots of fun, too!  Previously I shared several sculptures I had made here and here.

Recently it came to me how exciting it would be if I took previous art pieces I have drawn/painted and give them another dimension.  Almost like "bringing them to life".  The thought of doing this has stirred a tremendous amount of excitement within my soul.  The intention was set... onward I went...  Now I'm ready to show you my first sculpture  along with the inspirational art I previously created.  The original art was created as part of my,  "Simple Truths/Simple Reminder", series.  I'm pretty sure we all, at some time in our life, have  experienced the comfort of knowing that we've got a friend. Especially in those times when we feel all alone or we feel like the weight of the world seems to be on our shoulders.  I know I have been there before.

Resistance

A couple weeks ago I was asked to paint another original piece of art like a previous piece.
I had never done this before and quite honestly I was a little reluctant to even attempt it. I could list all the logical  reasons not to do it and every reason could be quite convincing.  Yet I was drawn to the idea.  Not in a negative way, it was more like a urging to move onward.  I chose to sit with it.  Meditate on it.  My thoughts began to shift.  I no longer viewed it as a challenge instead I saw it as an opportunity for growth.  Once again to overcome resistance (otherwise identified as fear). 90% of the time I create art from my heart,  I do not document the paint colors, the techniques I did, etc.  Which was the #1 item on my list of reasons not to do this.

What I discovered, by following thru with creating this piece is the essence remains the same...it's

Art from my Heart.

I am so grateful that I believed enough to conquer any imagined fear.

Art in the Yard

My friend, Carol, and I are having a Art in the Yard sale on Saturday, April 21.  If you are in the area it would be great to see you!  I've had several people make comments  that they wished they loved closer so they could come.  This sparked an idea!  I have now adjusted the prices on my website www.teresacash.com to reflect the prices I will be offering at the art sale.  No pressure intended! :-)  

Here is a piece I will be selling at the yard sale that is not listed on my website.  It is dimensional and the poppies, the stems, and the buds are made from hot glue.  Can you believe it?   I then painted it with  Golden acrylic paints.  Including that stand it measures approx. 11"w X 27"h.  If you are interested send me a message.  I believe it will go rather quickly, if not, it's mine.  

Let me tell you about the Good News Angels. 

These little angels have held a special place in my heart since 1993.  (just ask anyone who has known me for that long)  They came to me in a dream, it was placed upon my heart to deliver the message regarding the power of a smile, these little angels became the means to do that.  The next day I created my first rough draft of the angels.  The message she carries is simple, yet profound, "If each of us would find a way, to bring a smile to someone's day, we could make a difference in the world."  

Each Good News Angel is handmade, not produced in a factory.  Which means that each angel is unique-no two are exactly alike.  She is made with lots of love and attention!   When I started making and selling her 1993 I used a portion of the proceeds to anonymously purchase food for someone in need.  I'm going back to my original idea.  I want her to continue to do good things.  It isn't about making money, it's about helping people.  

From the sale of each angel $5.00 will be held in a reserve.  When $100.00 has been reached WE WILL anonymously buy groceries for someone in need.  This is truly another way to bring a smile to someone's face.

checking in

Thought I better check in with the virtual world.  I've had several people send me private messages wondering where I am since I haven't posted in awhile.  Well... I have many things going on right now.    Some good things/some not so good things.  I'll share one of the good things with you.

I am building my website.  Learning as I go which is both rewarding and frustrating.  I've had several hurdles that set me back,  mentally, which caused procrastination to set in.  Mid August I posted that I was 80% done well I am relieved to announce that I am now 90% done.  See I am progressing.
I have always dreamed about owning a store so I decided the virtual store would be a great way to start.  I will be selling my original artwork, archival prints of my art, little plaques of my art, and custom vintage art.  I will also be introducing "I'm Just A Little Angel..."

I just completed the 21 Meditation with Deepak Chopra and Oprah.  I can't adequately expressed how much I loved it.  I would get up at 5:15am most days to mediate then write in my journal.  What a terrific way to start my day.  I am convinced that meditation is a practice worth adding to my life.
