a budding photographer

What a beautiful morning for my granddaughter, Delaina, and I to be taking photos.
I had my big camera and she had my little camera.
She may just be a budding photographer.

My heart was filling with a tremendous amount of pride watching her articulate her next shot.  Her little fingers kept getting in the way of the lens but it didn't matter.  We were in the moment!
When we came inside to view her photos most of them didn't show up becauseI think  she was turning the camera off by mistake, thinking it was the button to take the picture.  Her remark was, "Dang!  We'll have to do it again."  Needless to say, I smiled and said, Yes, we will."

meet some of the "Fly Girls"

I was fortunate to meet up with some fellow artists that I have become acquainted with in the private facebook group.   We all took an on-line class together in August 2011 (think that's the month) given by Kelly Rae Roberts.  The entire group is known as the "Fly Girls".   I believe there was like 360 some people in our class.  Approximately 50 remain active in the facebook group.  Gradually people who live close to one another are meeting up.  These ladies were from Illinois and Wisconsin.  It's really fun to get to meet them face to face after chatting on line for a while.  We closed down one joint and had to move to another location.  That would be an indication at how much fun we were having.

I'm listing their blogs in case you want to get to know them a little better, too.

a dream to influence my reality

I had a dream last night.... I dreamt I was taking a gymnastic class and we were to be working on doing cartwheels. I was over to the side jumping up and down. I was amazed that I could jump so high from a standing position. I mean, really high! After each class we were to write an evaluation of the class. The instructor came up to me, knelt down beside me, and softly asked how I have liked the classes. I told her I did. She said my evaluations didn't reflect that. I told her I have a hard time articulating my words in a written form. She said, "Be authentic. Write what you feel."

I am taking this dream as a lesson to follow in my current life. No... I didn't get up to start  practice jumping higher but I did start thinking about this one lady that I met on face book and I sent her a message,  just to check in. Normally I wouldn't act on that feeling for the sake of sounding corny. I did it anyway.

My intention is to be more consistent in writing on my blog.  I am going to try my best to remain authentic along the way.  I hope you stay with me on this journey.  Even take a moment and let me know where your journey is taking you.  We are here to learn from one another.

Keep Smiling!

I'm tickled

I'm tickled and wanted to share.  My picture made it in the advertisement for the workshops at CREATE.  Open the link and scroll down to the bottom.  This is a photo of me and Mary Beth Shaw.  Mary Beth was the artist/instructor for a class I took last August in Lisle, IL. She had one of the most lovable personalities + I learned lots from her.  CREATE is coming to Lisle, IL again this year.  If you have the opportunity you should check it out and perhaps take a class or two or three or.......

and I played

I put on my pajamas and I played.
OH DID I HAVE FUN!
This would definitely be the true meaning of "letting my creative spirit out to play".

what's holding you back?

Fear of being judged was always the #1 fear that could stop me dead in my tracks.  But not no more.  Does that mean I still don't have the fear?  Absolutely not, because I do.  It's just my desire to step out of my comfort zone  is much stronger than my fear.  I am learning to face my fear head on and push thru it.  We can often get caught in the trap of blaming other people and outside circumstances, instead of looking within.

I created this piece because it seemed fitting to be with my "simple reminders/simple truths" series.  I purposely put her right arm across her body as a symbol that we are the one who hold ourselves back.  No one else can do that to us.

I'd like to point out this is my first time to draw/paint an entire body. Getting proportions right was the challenge.  My next step is to add feet.  I'd like to say that I ran out of space to put them in this piece but the truth is, "I was afraid".  See, there's that fear I was talking about!  I'll meet it head on the next time.
