melancholy

I woke up one morning with a heavy feeling of melancholy. (a feeling of pensive sadness, typically with no
obvious cause)  I was about to start my day, like any other day,  yet the feeling lingered.  I decided to shift
things.  I was going to sit with the feeling and ask "what am I to be learning"?  During my morning
meditation I wept.  Typically I  would try to stop the tears but this time I didn't.   I grabbed kleenex
instead.  I continued to sit with the feeling while my inquiring mind was being rather active.  "What am
to be learning?"
I was prompted to take out my
drawing pad and I drew what I
believed being melancholy
looked like.  I'd like to say the
feeling dissipated during the
drawing time but it  didn't.

What did I learn?  Nothing
new.  I'm sure we all know this.
On this day, I learned it in a
new way.  Being melancholy
(blue) isn't a bad thing.  It is
simply a feeling. One thing for
certain about being a human
is we come with a boat load of
feelings.  I believe that all of
them serve a purpose at some
time.  The real bonus is we
have the power to choose
which feeling(s) to hold onto
and which one(s) to let go
of.

Time has past since that
melancholic day and I am
pleased to announce that I
have returned to my optimistic,
creative, cheerful, encouraging
supportive, productive, self.
And I am grateful for all that I
am learning.

it is me

I have been dedicating time to draw more faces.  I continue to be surprised that I can even do this!!!  This is the motivating drive behind Create Art with Abandon.   I want to encourage others to let their creative spirit out to play and uncover your creative talents.  WE ARE ALL CREATIVE!   You absolutely never know what is there inside you  until you give it a chance to come out.  I am filled with gratitude that I took the chance to travel this creative path.  I am learning more and more about myself, everyday.  I continue to be thirsty for more. It  was in August 2011 that I drew my first face that ignited my spark.

Yesterday afternoon, I took my pencil and drawing journal, turned on some music, lit some incense, sat in the chair in my studio, and started drawing myself.  I had thought about drawing myself many times but could not muster up the courage.  This was the day I chose to overcome resistance and just do it.     Sometimes it wasn't easy looking at all my wrinkles and darkness under my eyes.  Yet it was me.  I knew my take on it was personal so I asked my husband for his opinion, after all he does see me all the time.   He hesitated, then began his remarks.  Naturally he was right, just don't tell him!  :-)  I proceeded to erase one whole side of my face to begin again.

It's funny because as I write this post and look at my drawing I still see things I could change but I won't.  I delcare it done.  I recall the self talk thru this process and it makes me smile.
                                                  After all...it is me!

met up with a new friend

Today I met up with Jill Heijl, she is someone I met on-line thru a Facebook  site called Liberate Your Art.   At Liberate Your Art you send 5 postcards to the hostess, she in turn mails them out to 5 different people.  Then you post the cards you get.

Someone had posted this postcard called Dirty Martini and I really liked it a lot.  I liked the quirkiness of it.  Several weeks later I received a friend request on Facebook and  it was from the artist of the Dirty Martini.  I was quite surprised at the coincidence or should I say synchronicity. Eagerly I accepted the request.   Long story short.... Jill happens to live in Illinois and was coming to Naperville today.  How awesome is that?  We talked for
3 1/2 hrs and we probably could have gone on longer.  It seems like I've known her for a while.  We determined we were "Soul Sistas".

I firmly believe the Universe converged our paths and I am anxious, as she is, to see where it leads.

Altered Brush Project

I had signed up for Donna Downey's Altered Brush Project.   It was alot of fun creating art out of a ordinary paint brush.  It didn't take me long to decide that I wanted showcase the current creative Late Bloomers from my other site .  You know when you are working on something that so exciting you have hard time putting it down?  Well that is what I felt for this project.  I think it turned out cute.

and I played

I put on my pajamas and I played.
OH DID I HAVE FUN!
This would definitely be the true meaning of "letting my creative spirit out to play".
